Aardwerk

Current Livelihood Project (The Netherlands)

Building on the experiences in Western Australia with separate enterprises for permaculture and community technology, Leo has now integrated both into a single “sole trader business” called Aardwerk.

It brings together and demonstrates the relation between design of ecologically responsible resilient communities, education, social networking and communicating about it.

Clients are individuals and non-profit organisations with related goals and interests. Examples are: VIBA Vereniging (Society for bio-logical architecture), De Twaalf Ambachten (Centre for environmentally responsible small-scale technologies) and De Kleine Stroom (Center for community food production and reconnection with community and environment).

As a volunteer Leo is involved with Transition Town Eindhoven (steering group member) and Vereniging Ecodorp Brabant (president).

A lot of time and effort is going into promotion through example. The main method is the PermaBlitz, which introduces both the design principles of permaculture and the social process of Transition Town community building in a very accessible, effective and practical way.
